I whipped this up based on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! design, used oak for the 1x2s and fir for the 2x2s, in total about $70 for everything. It works great! I think I have enough left over to make a support to mount the shifter on, I'll have to figure out the best way to do it.

What is your steering wheel and pedal combo?

Logitech G25

No cup holders? Nice work btw

Nice! I played iRacing for the first time over the weekend, and the setup my friend has is less than ideal. The stalk to support the wheel is in the way of the pedals. Gas was ok, brake was tricky, and there's no way I could have used the clutch if needed.

Snap, it even fits nicely at the desk, nice work! I'd like a similar rig for my basement XBone/360.

If you cheap out on the wood you could probably do it for closer to $30, a drill press and chopsaw make it much easier.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 09:36 |
|
Haha I use it at the desk so I think I'll be fine.

Awesome...I may need to do this.
This's what I'm currently running (along with spooky dog) and the center shaft, while normally ok, can get awkward at the worst of times.

I got my g27 yesterday and tried setting it up too, but wasn't as successful as you..
I'm planning on building a stand like yours, but probably a little lower. Nice job dude!
![]() 12/04/2014 at 09:45 |
|
Yeah I could see that getting in the way.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 09:47 |
|
The stand I made is both adjustable and collapsible for storage, that is the main reason I made it.

I need this in my life. STAT!
![]() 12/04/2014 at 09:52 |
|
That's a good idea, I forgot to take that into consideration. How stable is it? Also, how did you do the first race with your wheel? I was doing Grid 2 and totally sucked for the first 30 minutes until I played with some of the feedback settings.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 10:00 |
|
My first race using a wheel was abysmal, the sensitivity was way too low. It's pretty damn stable, the oak doesn't flex and there isn't much side to side motion either. It is so much better than just clamping on to a table/desk.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 10:01 |
|
Do it! It is seriously so much better, first try and it was at the perfect angle.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 10:08 |
|
I hear that, my issue was the feedback, but after tunning it a bit it was so much better.
How are the pedals in that design? as in the distance and comfort, I may end up using your resign
![]() 12/04/2014 at 10:13 |
|
I didn't change the pedals at all, the angles seem good and when I did the shakedown in game it felt good.
When I mount the shifter I'll update this article to show how I ended up doing it.

I love seeing so many with the same illness I have! :P

Nice setup sir Stiggy. I'll hafta post up mine when I get a chance. (Hint, it's a fanatec)

You lucky man. I barely got this wheel, so I doubt a nicer one will be forthcoming anytime soon. I will have an Oculus Rift, by hell or high-water.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 14:51 |
|
Oh snap, I just noticed it's adjustable.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 14:52 |

The only thing keeping me from doing this is the fear of having someone see me do this.
That's how the social contract works I think.

My wife graciously puts up with me.
It folds away if you feel like you need to hide your shame...

Sweet trebuchet!
![]() 12/04/2014 at 15:31 |

How is the wooden base for the steering held?
I see two screws on either sides. Are they bolted in tightly or can it change angles?
![]() 12/04/2014 at 17:06 |
|
I used carriage bolts with a flat washer and a nyloc nut on the inside, I tightened it to be snug but still movable.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 17:11 |
|
I just realized what you are asking. The pedal box isn't mounted, I just move it to where it is comfortable.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 17:45 |

Gotcha :)
![]() 12/04/2014 at 18:15 |

Haha yeah that was what I meant, I'm looking to build something to help keep them in place too

if you look at the link he did something like what you want.
![]() 12/04/2014 at 18:52 |

I see that now, thank you, that is basically what I'm considering on doing. I am just so torn whether to build it off PVC, metal or wood
![]() 12/04/2014 at 21:03 |

it depends on how much space you are okay with losing really, that and whether you plan on putting in a racing seat
![]() 12/11/2014 at 19:56 |
|
Awesome update! Now all you need is a seat.
![]() 12/11/2014 at 19:57 |

I've always wanted to do this!
![]() 12/11/2014 at 20:08 |
|
Do it!
![]() 12/11/2014 at 20:09 |
|
Very nice! This is on my project list. I have an old CRX Si seat (which is Recaro made) I plan on integrating into the Wheel/pedal setup some how. Still kicking around Idea but my goal is to make it feel like your sitting in a car.
![]() 12/11/2014 at 20:19 |
|
No space! It's on the list.
![]() 12/11/2014 at 21:01 |
|
I'll have to try and find a junkyard seat to complete it.
![]() 12/11/2014 at 21:22 |

I have GT5, the wheel and pedals, and we never used it after the first few times. Don't know what it takes - I had to clamp a piece of plywood to the coffee table and clamp the wheel to the plywood to get something even approaching a decent driving position.

I cannot recommend making one of these enough.

550SF Manhattan apartment. I don't have permission for another appliance, much less a wooden construction. Oy.
![]() 12/12/2014 at 00:04 |

It folds away!
![]() 12/12/2014 at 00:12 |

We are negotiating buying an apartment ... must be very careful about what I insist goes into the space. She is trying to accomodate my desire to stay in the west 70s, and I want her to have a big closet. And another one. And maybe a third one.

Nicely done. I did something similar, but since I race formula cars I build mine to mimmick my car's cockpit. $80 in materials, some half assed saw passes, and a few dozen screws.

Whenever I see the lead image, I think I'm looking at a trebuchet for a split second.
![]() 12/12/2014 at 10:54 |

Haha I could see that
![]() 12/12/2014 at 11:04 |

I made one for Fourza, have since sold the Fanatec and junked the rest when we moved, and I stopped playing.

I used PVC and have a Sparco Sprint V behind it

God I'm so jealous this would never fly by my gf.
